A suicide bomb attack has hit Istanbul’s touristic Sultanahmet square on Jan. 12 and the incident has left 11 people killed, 15 wounded.
The meeting on late Jan. 13 chaired by PM Davutoğlu has hosted Interior Minister Efkan Ala, Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş, Director General of Public Security Mustafa Çalışkan, some undersecretaries and officials from National Intelligence Organization (MIT), gendarmerie and Police Intelligence Agency.
The closed-door meeting that has lasted three hours addressed the Sultanahmet attack and PM Davutoğlu was briefed by relevant branches regarding the investigation over the deadly attack which killed 10 tourists.
A decision was made to boost security measures in crowded places by increasing the presence of security team members and assure advanced technological support such as cameras in these public spaces.
Following the security meeting, Davutoğlu spoke with the injured tourist guide Sibel Satıroğlu, one of the key witnesses of the attack.
